100 Terms (it's not as bad as it sounds...) ~ One hundred Social Studies terms have been selected for students to know by the end of this year. These terms will be used in class throughout they year, but student should begin learning these words immediately.
Every few weeks there will be a "matching" quiz covering 10 terms chosen at random. Yes, even though we might be studying ROME, I will choose words from any unit we will be covering this year. DON'T PANIC!!! These quizzes will not count towards your class grade. However the scores will be listed in JupiterEd for review.
There is an extra-credit incentive (which is a bit too complicated to type out here) that will "kick-in" each time a student receives a "10 out of 10" on a quiz (yes it does happen...more often than you might think). Further information about this will be explained in class.
In May there will be a final exam, covering all 100 terms, which does count towards the history class grade. This final is a large portion of the Social Studies grade for 4th quarter. The more effort students put into learning their terms, the faster they will see improvement! Knowing these terms will help students to gain a strong foundation for this year's history curriculum.
Students are expected to study their terms at home. I strongly encourage the use of HANDMADE flash-cards AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Thank you, parents, for all of your help & support!
By the way...if an additional list of the "100 Terms" is needed, go to the USEFUL HANDOUTS page. All terms and definitions are found there.
